Critical AI Literacy: An Indigenous Perspective

Most guides to AI literacy teach the same thing: how to write a good prompt, how to use a chatbot for schoolwork or admin tasks, how to get a faster answer. But it answers only one question: how do I use this tool well?

Critical AI literacy asks a different question first: who built this tool, whose knowledge and labour trained it, who profits from it, and who is harmed by it?

For Indigenous people specifically, there is a third question underneath both of those, one that neither mainstream AI literacy nor most critical AI literacy frameworks were built to ask: does using this tool respect our right to govern our own knowledge, our own data, and our own decisions? That third question is what this guide adds.
